Eight plays tonight, and six of the eight are a bet on somebody not scoring. Four unders, three sides where the pitching edge is the whole argument, and one leg that is honestly the shakiest thing on the page. All of it is laid out below, including the parts that argue against the card.

13 units to win, 17.41 at risk. Every price is a minus number, so every unit figure is what gets won rather than what gets put up. As a group the card has to hit 57.25 percent just to stay even.

Padres and Giants under 8-11511.1553.49%10:15

The two biggest tickets are attached to two of the three most expensive prices, which is backwards from how a card usually gets built. That is deliberate tonight, and the reason is in the next two sections.

Rays -166: Houston Is Starting A Man With Zero Career Starts

This is the leg the whole card is anchored to, and it comes down to a line on a player page that is easy to skim past.

Miguel Ullola has five career major league appearances, seven career innings, and zero career starts. Not zero this season. Zero. Houston is handing him the opening of a game in a division race against a club that has won 87 times.

Across the diamond is a starter in the middle of the best season of his career.

WHIP0.910.86
Opponent average.200.192

Home runs per nine0.822.57

The Ullola rate stats look fine because seven innings is not a sample, it is a rounding error. The one number in that column that means anything is 2.57 home runs per nine, and even that is built on two swings.

The rest of the case is the building. Tampa Bay is 47-25 at home this season, a .653 win rate, against a price that asks for 62.41 percent. The Rays are 87-59 overall with a team ERA of 3.81 and a 1.15 WHIP, the best WHIP of any club playing tonight. Houston is 75-72 and 38-34 on the road with a 4.52 staff ERA.

The honest counter is that Houston hits better away from home, 4.68 runs a game on the road against 4.33 at home, and the Astros have hit 193 home runs. A bullpen game is also not automatically a bad game. It is a bad game when the bullpen has to cover nine innings against a lineup that scores 4.56 a night at home, which is what is being asked here.

The Bronx: 3.5 Units On Two Sub 3.10 ERAs

Two separate tickets in the same game, 3.5 units between them, and both of them come from the same place. This is the best pitching matchup on the board tonight and the total is priced like it is ordinary.

Innings161.264.0
ERA3.063.09
WHIP1.141.17
Opponent average.205.181
Strikeouts per nine9.969.84

A .205 opponent average on one side and a .181 on the other, with both men missing nearly ten bats per nine innings. That is what an under 8 at -105 is being asked to bet against, and -105 is the cheapest number on the whole card.

The team total under 4.5 is the more interesting of the two, and the argument is a strikeout argument. New York has struck out 1,340 times this season, the most of any club on this card, on a .234 team average. The Yankees score plenty, 4.86 a game at home, but they do it in bursts built on 199 home runs rather than by stringing singles together. Against a starter holding opponents to .205 with a 9.96 strikeout rate, the burst is the only real path to five runs, and the burst is exactly what a team total under is willing to live or die on.

New York's own staff carries a 3.20 ERA, the best in this group, which is the half of the game under 8 that nobody talks about. The Mets score 4.42 a game on the road with a .717 OPS and bring a 4.19 staff ERA of their own.

Cleveland And The Twins Team Total: One Pitcher, Two Tickets

Same structure as the Bronx. One game carrying 3 units across two tickets, and again one pitcher is doing the arguing.

Parker Messick has a 2.53 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP over 28 starts and 167 innings, with 173 strikeouts against 45 walks and a .210 opponent average. Across his whole career that is 35 starts and a 2.57 ERA. He has been this pitcher from the day he arrived.

Minnesota answers with Taj Bradley, a 3.95 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP with 23 home runs allowed in 159.1 innings, 1.30 per nine.

Cleveland at -115 is the cheapest side on the card and the reason is the Guardians offense, which is the worst one playing tonight: 598 runs, a .237 average and a .686 OPS, and only 4.10 a game on the road. Cleveland is 74-73 and 38-34 away from home. Minnesota is 69-77 and 38-34 at home. Two mediocre clubs, and the tiebreaker is a 2.53 ERA standing across from a 3.95.

The Twins team total under 3.5 is the aggressive version of the same read. Minnesota scores 4.69 a game at home, more than a run above the number, so this ticket is asking Messick to hold a roughly league average offense to three or fewer. He has the profile for it. It is still the leg on this card most likely to be decided by one inning going sideways.

Seattle -157 Against A 6.02 ERA

Jeffrey Springs has made 26 starts and given up 33 home runs in 130 innings, which is 2.28 per nine, with a 6.02 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP. George Kirby has been ordinary this season, a 4.18 ERA and a .283 opponent average, and ordinary is a long way clear of 6.02.

The Athletics are 59-88 and 27-45 at home, a .375 home win rate, and they have allowed 828 runs, by far the worst run prevention of any club on tonight's board.

Two things argue the other way and both are real. Seattle is 29-43 on the road, which is barely better than the Athletics are at home, and the Mariners offense is the weakest on this card at 581 runs and a .682 OPS. The Athletics also hit at home, 4.90 runs a game and a .780 OPS, against 3.84 on the road. This price is being paid for the starting pitcher gap and for nothing else.

The Other Two Unders

Padres and Giants under 8 at -115, 1 unit. Oracle Park, 10:15 eastern. Robbie Ray carries a 3.39 ERA, and the walk total is the flaw in him: 77 in 151.1 innings. Anthony Molina has a 2.79 ERA across 2 starts this season and a 6.26 career ERA across 58 appearances, so nobody should pretend the Giants half of this is settled. What holds the under up is the two offenses. San Diego scores 4.49 a game on the road, San Francisco 4.18 at home, and the Padres staff ERA of 3.88 is the second best of the twelve clubs playing tonight. This is the smallest ticket on the card for a reason.

Reds and Brewers under 8 at -120, 1.5 units. This is the weakest leg on the page and it should be said plainly. Andrew Abbott has a 4.43 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP with 22 home runs allowed. Dustin May has a 4.69 and a 1.32. Neither of those is an under pitcher. Milwaukee scores 5.25 runs a game at home, the highest home rate of any club playing tonight, and the Brewers are 91-56.

What the ticket is actually betting is Cincinnati. The Reds hit .230, score 4.22 a game on the road, and have struck out 1,396 times, more than any other team in baseball. Milwaukee's staff ERA is 3.56, second best on tonight's board. So it is one real offense and one that disappears, against a total asking both of them to show up.

The Argument Against This Card

Four unders on one night is a correlation, not a portfolio. If it is a warm evening around the league and the ball is carrying, several of these go down together. Nobody should pretend eight tickets on one slate are eight independent events.

The two team totals are the softest structures here. The Yankees have hit 199 home runs and the Twins score 4.69 at home. Both of those unders lose to one swing with traffic on base, and neither has a cushion.

Seattle is 29-43 on the road. A -157 price on a road team with a losing road record and the weakest offense on the card is paying for a pitching matchup and shrugging at everything else on the ticket.

Miguel Ullola having zero career starts does not mean Houston has no pitchers. A bullpen game can work, especially with an off day nearby, and the Astros have hit 193 home runs. The Rays leg is the largest on the card and it is priced at a level that leaves no room for a bad night.

Bottom Line

The through line tonight is starting pitching that the prices have not fully caught up to. A 2.88 ERA against a man who has never started a big league game. A 2.53 against a 3.95. A 4.18 against a 6.02. In the Bronx, a 3.06 against a 3.09 in a game where both clubs strike out constantly.

The two unders in the middle of the card are softer and they are sized that way. The Reds and Brewers ticket in particular is a bet on one bad offense outweighing one very good one, and that is a coin with a thumb on it at best.

Eight plays, 13 units to win, 17.41 at risk, 57.25 percent to break even. All eight were on the verified record with their prices before first pitch, and all eight get graded there whether they win or lose.

Card FAQ

What are the BetLegend plays for Friday September 11?

Eight. Tampa Bay Rays moneyline at -166 for 2 units, Seattle Mariners moneyline at -157 for 2 units, New York Yankees team total under 4.5 at -145 for 2 units, Cleveland Guardians moneyline at -115 for 1.5 units, Minnesota Twins team total under 3.5 at -120 for 1.5 units, Reds and Brewers under 8 at -120 for 1.5 units, Yankees and Mets under 8 at -105 for 1.5 units, and Padres and Giants under 8 at -115 for 1 unit.

How much is the card risking?

Every price on it is a minus number, so every unit figure is the amount being won rather than the amount put up. The card wins 13 units and risks 17.41. It needs 57.25 percent to break even as a group.

Which leg is the most expensive?

Tampa Bay at -166, which needs 62.41 percent on its own. Seattle at -157 needs 61.09 and the Yankees team total at -145 needs 59.18. The cheapest leg on the card is the Subway Series under 8 at -105, which needs 51.22 percent.

Why is Tampa Bay worth -166?

Because of who Houston is sending out. Miguel Ullola has five career major league appearances, seven career innings and zero career starts. Drew Rasmussen has made 27 starts this season with a 2.88 ERA, a 0.91 WHIP and a .200 opponent average. The Rays are 47-25 at home, which is a .653 win rate, and -166 asks for 62.41.

Why the Yankees team total under and not the Yankees moneyline?

Because the case here is the two starters, not the winner. Nolan McLean has a 3.06 ERA with a .205 opponent average and 9.96 strikeouts per nine. Carlos Rodon has a 3.09 ERA and a .181 opponent average. New York has also struck out 1,340 times this season, more than any other club on this card, and that is the profile that keeps a team total down against a strikeout starter.

What is the strongest argument against the Yankees team total under?

The Yankees score 4.86 runs a game at home, which is above the 4.5 line, and they have hit 199 home runs. A team total under only needs one swing to go wrong. That is the honest risk and it is why the leg is priced at -145 rather than even money.

What is the weakest leg on the card?

Reds and Brewers under 8. Andrew Abbott carries a 4.43 ERA and Dustin May a 4.69, and Milwaukee scores 5.25 runs a game at home, the highest home rate of any club playing tonight. The under leans entirely on Cincinnati, which hits .230 and has struck out 1,396 times, more than anyone in baseball.

Where can these plays be verified?

All eight were posted with their prices and unit sizes before first pitch on the verified BetLegend record at trustmyrecord.com, and they are graded there afterwards whether they win or lose.
