Mason Barnett has made four starts in the big leagues this season and allowed 12 home runs in 40.2 innings. The last time anyone saw him in a major league game, August 17 against Kansas City, he got eight outs and gave up six runs. On Friday he gets the ball at Progressive Field against a Cleveland team that's tied for first place in the AL Central with two weeks left. That's the biggest ticket on today's card, and it's the one I'd least like to talk myself out of.
6 plays, 11.5 units to win, about 17 at risk. First pitch for the earliest one is 3:40 Pacific, the last one goes at 6:40.

Every price on the card is laying juice, so the unit figures are what each ticket wins. The Guardians -1 is a run line with a push built in: a one run Cleveland win gives the money back, and anything by two or more cashes.
Guardians -1: Mason Barnett Walks Into A Pennant Race
Look at the two dugouts. Cleveland is 78 and 75, has won two straight, and is tied with the White Sox at the top of the AL Central. The Athletics are 61 and 92, 16 games out, have lost three in a row, and carry a run differential of 214 runs in the red. In their last ten games the Athletics' staff has given up 19 runs once and 10 runs once, and the offense has scored 3 or fewer in seven of those ten.
| 2026 | Mason Barnett, Athletics | Daniel Espino, Guardians |
|---|---|---|
| ERA | 7.08 | 2.92 |
| Games and innings | 4 starts, 40.2 | 1 start in 12.1 innings |
| WHIP | 1.62 | 1.22 |
| Strikeouts and walks | 38 and 24 | 21 and 4 |
| Home runs allowed | 12 | 2 |
| OPS against | .906 | .663 |
Barnett's numbers aren't a small sample fluke that happened in one bad night. His last four big league outings went 5 innings and 3 runs against Boston, 4.1 innings and 5 runs with 3 homers in Cincinnati, 4 innings and 6 runs with 3 more homers against Tampa Bay, then 2.2 innings and 6 runs in Kansas City. He's walked 24 hitters in 40.2 innings. That's the profile of a pitcher who gets the lineup to the third time through with men on base, and Cleveland doesn't need a home run barrage to beat that. It just needs a crooked inning.
Daniel Espino is a different kind of start. He's worked mostly out of the bullpen, and his one start this month was two scoreless innings in Minnesota. So this is likely a staff game for Cleveland, and that's fine by me. The Guardians' team ERA is 3.80. The Athletics' is 5.41. Espino has struck out 21 in 12.1 innings, and left handed hitters are hitting .174 against him with no home runs.
Why -1 instead of the moneyline? The moneyline is around -225 and the -1.5 run line is near even money. The -1 sits in between: I'm paying -180 for a Cleveland win by two or more, and I get my stake back on a one run game. Cleveland won two of three in Sacramento back in May, 8 to 5 and 14 to 6, and the one loss was 7 to 1. Against a starter who gives up this much hard contact, the margin tends to be more than one.
Blue Jays -132: Dylan Cease On The Road
Toronto is 76 and 77 and two games out of the last wild card spot. Texas is the same 76 and 77, a game behind Houston in the AL West. Both teams need this series. The difference tonight is on the mound.
| 2026 | Dylan Cease, Blue Jays | Kumar Rocker, Rangers |
|---|---|---|
| Record and ERA | 11 and 5, 2.38 | 5 and 11, 4.54 |
| Starts and innings | 28 starts, 166.1 | 25 starts, 138.2 |
| Strikeouts | 236 | 132 |
| OPS against | .538 | .766 |
| Split that matters | 1.89 ERA on the road | 5.02 ERA at home |
Cease has been better away from Toronto all year. In 13 road starts he's allowed a .470 OPS, which is the kind of number a good reliever posts, not a starter over 81 innings. Left handed hitters are hitting .161 against him. His recent form isn't slipping either: 9 strikeouts and 1 run against Baltimore last time out, and 6 scoreless innings in Cleveland earlier this month.
Rocker is the opposite story. He's been hit harder at home, a 5.02 ERA and a .792 OPS at Globe Life Field, and left handed hitters have a .835 OPS with 14 home runs against him. His last three outings were 3 innings in Milwaukee, 5 innings and 5 earned against Tampa Bay, then 4 innings in Arizona. He's not getting deep, and Texas has a 4.30 team ERA behind him.
Two Team Total Unders: Royals Against Skenes, Braves In Houston
Royals under 3.5 at -125. Kansas City is 28 and 50 on the road, and only the Rockies and Angels have been worse away from home. The Royals have a .661 OPS on the road. They've scored 3 or fewer in six of their last ten games, including three straight nights of 1, 1 and 2. And they're facing Paul Skenes at PNC Park, where he has a 3.70 ERA and 110 strikeouts in 87.2 innings. His last two starts were 5.1 scoreless innings against the Angels and 7 innings with 2 runs at Wrigley Field. These two teams haven't met this season.
Braves under 4.5 at -139. Atlanta leads the NL East at 89 and 64, but the bats have gone quiet. In their last ten games the Braves have scored 0, 1, 2 and 3 in consecutive games, and they've been held to 4 or fewer in seven of the ten. They're a .691 OPS team on the road, well off their .751 at home. Peter Lambert has a 3.71 ERA with 141 strikeouts, and left handed hitters have a .594 OPS against him. Houston has a roof, so there's no warm Texas night pushing the ball out.
Mariners -181: Bryan Woo Against A Team That's 1 And 9
Seattle is 71 and 82 and seven games out of the wild card, so this isn't a pennant race price. It's a price on the opponent. The Rockies are 56 and 97, 1 and 9 in their last ten, have lost two straight and carry a run differential of 177 runs in the red. They hadn't named a starter as of Friday morning.
Bryan Woo is pitching as well as anyone in the league right now. His last two starts were 8 scoreless innings with 1 hit and 9 strikeouts against the Athletics, then 6 innings with no earned runs in Sacramento. That's no earned runs in his last 14 innings. On the season he has a 1.05 WHIP, 163 strikeouts and only 35 walks in 162.1 innings, and hitters have a .629 OPS against him.
Yankees -110: The Better Team At A Coin Flip Price
The Yankees are 88 and 64 with a run differential of 136, and they're 46 and 32 on the road, better away than at home. Arizona is 80 and 73 with a run differential of exactly zero and has lost two straight. At -110 the market is calling this nearly even. I don't think it is.
Eduardo Rodriguez has had a fine year, 15 and 6 with a 2.62 ERA, and that's the reason the price is this short. But the Yankees have a .739 OPS against left handed pitching, one of their better splits, and a 3.19 team ERA that's the best staff in either of these dugouts by almost a full run. Rodriguez's last start was 5.1 innings with 8 hits and 6 runs against Texas. Gerrit Cole has been uneven lately, and I'll get to that below, but he has walked only 22 hitters in 115.1 innings. At a coin flip price I'll take the deeper team.
The Argument Against This Card
Cleveland's pitching plan is a bullpen day. Espino's one start this month lasted two innings, so the Guardians will likely need several relievers to cover this one. A bullpen that's worked hard in a pennant race can give back a lead, and on a -1 the margin matters as much as the result.
Texas swept Toronto in June. Four games, four Rangers wins, and all four were close: 6 to 5, 5 to 4, 7 to 4 and 3 to 2. This series has been tight every time these teams meet.
Gerrit Cole's last two starts were bad. Four home runs allowed in San Diego, then 5 runs in 4.1 innings against the Mets. Chase Field isn't a pitcher's park, and if that form carries over, the Yankees are chasing early.
Woo is a different pitcher on the road. His ERA is 2.36 at home and 5.23 away, and Coors Field is the hardest road park there is for a pitcher. At -181 the Mariners need to win almost two games in three.
The Braves are still the Braves. They scored 12 in one game during this same cold stretch. One big inning beats a team total under, and Lambert gave up 9 runs to the Angels in August.
Card FAQ
What are the BetLegend plays for Friday September 18?
Six MLB plays. Cleveland Guardians -1 at -180 for 3 units, Toronto Blue Jays moneyline at -132 for 1.5 units, Kansas City Royals team total under 3.5 at -125 for 1.5 units, Atlanta Braves team total under 4.5 at -139 for 1.5 units, and New York Yankees moneyline at -110 for 2 units, and Seattle Mariners moneyline at -181 for 2 units.
How much is the card risking?
Every price is laying juice, so the unit figures are the amount being won. The card is 11.5 units to win and about 17 units at risk.
What does Guardians -1 mean?
It is a run line of one run. Cleveland has to win by two or more for the ticket to cash. A one run Cleveland win is a push and the stake comes back, and an Athletics win loses.
Why the Guardians against Mason Barnett?
Barnett has a 7.08 ERA with 12 home runs and 24 walks allowed in 40.2 big league innings, and his last outing was 2.2 innings with 6 runs. Cleveland is tied for first in the AL Central, and the Athletics are 61 and 92 with a run differential of 214 in the red.
