Braves at Mets, Game 2

Wednesday, 7:10 PM ET | Citi Field, Queens, NY

Atlanta (62-44) and New York (45-62) were supposed to play Tuesday, but rain forced a postponement and pushed the entire series into a straight doubleheader Wednesday, a 1:10 PM ET opener followed by this 7:10 PM ET nightcap. Game 1 carried its own story, AJ Smith-Shawver making his first big-league appearance since May 29, 2025 as he works back from Tommy John surgery, against Mets left-hander Sean Manaea.

Game 2 is where the marquee arm finally shows up. Chris Sale (11-6, 2.19 ERA, 134 strikeouts) gets the ball a day later than planned, opposite Christian Scott (3-2, 3.13 ERA), in a rematch of a pitching matchup that got wiped off the board entirely 24 hours ago. Atlanta leads the NL East comfortably, while New York sits last in the division, 17.5 games back, though the Mets lineup reminded the league it can still do damage, scoring 14 runs on Monday against a lesser Atlanta arm.

Playing two in one day changes the calculus for both bullpens, and neither club knows yet exactly how deep Smith-Shawver or Manaea will go in the opener, which could leave either manager needing more from relief in the nightcap than a normal single-game schedule would require. That variable, on top of Sale finally getting his rescheduled start, makes this the single most-watched game on Wednesday's board.

Yankees at White Sox

Wednesday, 7:40 PM ET | Rate Field, Chicago, IL

New York (61-46) has taken the first two games of this series, 9-5 Monday and 3-2 Tuesday, and goes for the sweep behind Cam Schlittler, who is 10-6 with a 2.07 ERA and 157 strikeouts, arguably the best number on the Yankees' entire staff this season. The Yankees sit 1.5 games back of Tampa Bay in the AL East and are doing it without Aaron Judge, who remains out with a stress fracture in his right rib and has not been cleared for baseball activity.

Chicago (55-51) counters with Davis Martin, 9-5 with a 3.49 ERA, looking to avoid a series sweep at home after dropping the first two. The White Sox have shown they can play with New York in flashes this season, but Schlittler's strikeout rate gives the Yankees a real advantage in a get-away game, the kind of start that can shorten Chicago's night if the bats do not answer early.

Red Sox at Athletics

Wednesday, 9:40 PM ET | Sutter Health Park, Sacramento, CA

Boston (55-51) split the first two games of this series, a 4-2 win Monday and a 4-3 loss Tuesday, and sends Patrick Sandoval to the mound for the decider, a 3.21 ERA across a small 14.2-inning sample with 13 strikeouts. He is part of the rotation improvisation the Red Sox have needed with Garrett Crochet still shut down by shoulder inflammation and now targeting a return closer to the postseason than to August.

The Athletics (45-63) counter with Jacob Lopez, 5-4 with a 6.12 ERA, a number that has kept Oakland's own lineup relevant even in a lost season. Boston has been the better roster over the past two weeks, taking series from Tampa Bay and Baltimore before this road trip, and Lopez's ERA is a soft number to lay against even with an unproven arm on the other side.

Mariners at Dodgers

Wednesday, 10:10 PM ET | Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, CA

Seattle (53-55, third in the AL West at 2.5 games back) beat Los Angeles (67-40, running away with the NL West) 7-6 on Tuesday behind five combined home runs, snapping a 12-game losing streak to the Dodgers dating back to 2021. Astros at Angels

Wednesday, 9:38 PM ET | Angel Stadium, Anaheim, CA

Houston (54-55) sits second in a bunched-up AL West, two games back of Texas and half a game behind Seattle, and hands the ball to Hayden Wesneski for his season debut, a fresh look for a rotation that has needed length after a mixed 5-5 stretch over its last 10 games that included a series win in Chicago sandwiched around a lopsided 12-3 loss.

The Angels (42-66) are well out of the race and start Grayson Rodriguez, who is 3-3 with an 8.54 ERA, numbers that reflect a difficult return from injury more than his talent level. Houston took the first meeting of this set 6-4 on Monday, and with the division separated by just a few games at the top, every win the Astros can bank against a last-place opponent matters more than the schedule suggests on paper.
