Dodgers at Cubs

Tuesday, 8:05 PM ET | Wrigley Field, Chicago, IL | LAD -184, total 9

Fourteen walks. That is the entire season total for Tarik Skubal across 96.2 innings, next to 116 strikeouts, a 2.79 ERA, a 0.91 WHIP and a .210 opponent average. His last three starts produced three walks combined, and none of them ended before the seventh inning: seven scoreless with nine strikeouts against the Angels on July 18, seven and a third with twelve punchouts against Kansas City on July 24, and six and two-thirds against Baltimore on July 29. Los Angeles is 69-44 and 36-21 away from home, the best road record in the sport, and the offense is genuinely better on the road, scoring 5.77 runs per game with a .800 OPS against 4.43 and .740 at Dodger Stadium.

Chicago has spent the summer proving the standings wrong about it and just proved them right on Monday, hitting Los Angeles for ten runs in the series opener. The Cubs are 64-49, they score 5.13 runs per game, second most in baseball, and Pete Crow-Armstrong is hitting .282 with 24 home runs and a .919 OPS with Seiya Suzuki behind him at .846. At Wrigley the club is 32-24 and averages 5.11 runs a night. This is not a soft assignment for anybody.

The pitching gap is where the game lives. Javier Assad owns a respectable 3.75 ERA and a very unrespectable recent workload: one inning on July 20, three innings on July 25, four and a third on July 30. He strikes out 6.20 per nine and has allowed twelve home runs in 69.2 innings. Behind him, Chicago is missing Daniel Palencia, Phil Maton, Hoby Milner, Ethan Roberts and Gavin Hollowell from the bullpen, all on the injured list at once, and the relievers who remain worked Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Los Angeles has its own crisis on the pitching side, with Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, Bobby Miller, Gavin Stone and Ben Casparius all on the 60-day list, which is exactly why Skubal is being asked to carry an entire staff tonight.

A 7.98 Opens The Night
MASN

Angels at Orioles

Tuesday, 6:35 PM ET | Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Baltimore, MD | BAL -150, total 9

The first pitch of the night belongs to Grayson Rodriguez, who has a 7.98 ERA. Ten starts, 44 innings, 21 walks, nine home runs and a .315 opponent average. The stuff has never been the question with him and the results have been indefensible, and Camden Yards is the last park in America where a pitcher with those numbers wants to work. The Angels are 43-69, the worst record in the American League, and 18-36 on the road.

Baltimore is not exactly steaming into this either. The Orioles are 54-58, have lost two in a row and are 30-29 at home, which for a club with this park and this payroll counts as a disappointment. Cade Povich takes the ball with three starts and 19.1 innings on his 2026 ledger, a 5.12 ERA and four home runs allowed already. Neither rotation slot inspires much.

The market posted a 9.0 and made Baltimore a -150 favorite, which reads like a bet on Angels pitching rather than a bet on Orioles hitting. Los Angeles has allowed 544 runs against 470 scored, and its 2-8 mark over the last ten games was interrupted only by a win on Sunday. If Rodriguez does not survive the fifth, the game turns into a bullpen contest between two staffs neither club trusts.

Mets at Guardians

Tuesday, 6:40 PM ET | Progressive Field, Cleveland, OH | CLE -128, total 7.5

Joey Cantillo has 124 strikeouts in 113.2 innings and a 1.45 WHIP. Those two facts do not usually live together, and the reason they do here is 54 walks. He is 8-6 with a 3.88 ERA because he misses enough bats to survive the traffic he creates, which is a working formula until the night it is not. Cleveland is 57-56 and has gone 3-7 over its last ten, though it did win on Sunday.

Sean Manaea arrives with a 4.42 ERA in nine starts and 91.2 innings, giving up 13 home runs along the way. He is the more experienced arm and the less effective one at the moment. New York is 47-66, has lost three straight, and is 22-32 on the road, and the offense has produced only 457 runs, fourth fewest in baseball.

A 7.5 total on a game featuring two starters with WHIPs of 1.34 and 1.45 is the market saying it expects neither lineup to punish the walks. Cleveland has scored 446 runs, fewer than any team in the American League except Toronto, and this is the shape of a game that stays close because nobody can finish anybody.

Athletics at Reds

Tuesday, 6:40 PM ET | Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati, OH | CIN -129, total 9

J.T. Ginn has not pitched in a big league game since July 18, when he allowed one hit across six and a third innings in Washington. He is 8-6 with a 3.46 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP, and he has walked 49 batters in 109.1 innings. That combination, real swing-and-miss stuff paired with genuine command volatility, is a nervous profile in a ballpark where Cincinnati has hit 79 of its 145 home runs.

Oakland is 45-67 and has lost five in a row, and the road version of the club barely resembles the home version. The Athletics score 5.00 runs per game at the Coliseum with a .790 OPS and 83 home runs in 57 games. On the road they score 3.67 with a .650 OPS and 51 homers in 55 games. Brent Rooker, Nick Kurtz, Shea Langeliers and Zack Gelof are all on the injured list, and on August 2 the club finished an 11-0 loss to Detroit by sending outfielder Carlos Cortes to the mound for a full inning.

Brady Singer is the reason this is not shorter than -129. He is 5-10 with a 4.68 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP, and his 21 home runs allowed in 107.2 innings is a difficult number to carry into this address. His range is wide: seven innings and two runs at Colorado on July 17, then four and a third with four walks and four earned against Cleveland on July 29. Cincinnati is 53-58 and 26-31 at home despite the power, and Elly De La Cruz at .276 with 18 homers and an .855 OPS is the bat that has to travel.

610 Runs, 55 Wins
NBCSP

Nationals at Phillies

Tuesday, 6:40 PM ET | Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, PA | PHI -314, total 9

Washington has scored 610 runs, more than any team in baseball, and the Nationals are 55-59 and have lost six straight. The explanation is the other column: 597 runs allowed, which is also near the top of the league. This is a team that wins 11-9 and loses 10-8, and lately it has been losing them.

Carson Palmquist is a large part of why the price here reached -314. Five starts, 16 innings, a 7.31 ERA, a 1.63 WHIP and a .306 opponent average. Against him Philadelphia sends Jesus Luzardo, who is 9-5 with a 3.57 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP and 157 strikeouts in 128.2 innings, the highest strikeout total of any starter working tonight.

The Phillies are 60-53, have won three in a row and are a curious 29-27 at home against 31-26 on the road. Washington, stranger still, is 32-25 away from Nationals Park and 23-34 inside it, which means the visitors are arriving in the version of themselves that actually works. At -314 the market has priced the pitching mismatch and dared the highest-scoring offense in the sport to do something about it.

YES

Cardinals at Yankees

Tuesday, 7:05 PM ET | Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY | NYY -187, total 8.5

New York is 63-50 and holds a six-game wild card cushion, and the club is 26-24 at Yankee Stadium against 37-26 on the road. Very few contenders carry a split shaped that way, and it has been true long enough now to stop being a fluke. Ryan Weathers takes the ball at 4-7 with a 3.99 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP, with 126 strikeouts against 33 walks in 115 innings and 17 home runs surrendered.

St. Louis is 56-57 and has won two in a row, and the Cardinals travel better than they host at 28-25 on the road against 28-32 at home. Hunter Dobbins gets the assignment with four starts, 33.2 innings and a 3.74 ERA, a small sample that has been steady rather than dominant, with 32 strikeouts and 11 walks.

The number is 8.5 with New York at -187, which prices the Yankees rotation edge without pretending the lineup is what it was in April. New York has scored 519 runs against 438 allowed, a differential built almost entirely on pitching, and the run prevention travels. Whether it holds up in a home park where this team has been ordinary all year is the question the market keeps declining to answer.

First Place Meets 8-2
NESN

White Sox at Red Sox

Tuesday, 7:10 PM ET | Fenway Park, Boston, MA | BOS -146, total 9

Chicago leads the American League Central at 59-52 and has done it with a home record of 34-21 that collapses to 25-31 on the road. Davis Martin is the most underrated starter working tonight: 9-5, a 3.62 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP, and seven home runs allowed in 117 innings, the lowest home run rate of any pitcher on this board with more than 100 innings. Fenway Park is a strange place to test that, and it is also the perfect place to test it.

Boston has won five straight and is 8-2 in its last ten, and the Red Sox have allowed 414 runs, fewer than any team in baseball. Like their opponent they are lopsided, but in the opposite direction: 35-22 on the road against 25-29 at Fenway. Two clubs that are much better somewhere else meet in the place where one of them is worse.

Patrick Sandoval starts for Boston with four starts and 19 innings on the season, a 3.32 ERA and an alarming 1.58 WHIP driven by a .304 opponent average. He has been getting outs without getting comfortable. At -146 with a 9.0 the market is leaning on the Red Sox form rather than the Red Sox venue, and Martin's home run suppression is the specific thing standing in the way.

Five In A Row
Regional

Marlins at Braves

Tuesday, 7:15 PM ET | Truist Park, Atlanta, GA | ATL -146, total 9

Atlanta is 67-45, has won five in a row and is 36-20 at Truist Park. The Braves have scored 549 runs and allowed 441, the second best differential in the National League behind only Milwaukee, and they are doing it without any single dominant starter. Grant Holmes carries a 3.88 ERA across 20 starts and 102 innings, with 45 walks and 18 home runs allowed, numbers that describe a pitcher who is surviving on run support rather than suppression.

Miami has quietly won three straight and sits at 58-55, two games out of a wild card spot, but the split is severe. The Marlins are 34-23 at loanDepot Park and 24-32 everywhere else. Ryan Gusto brings a 5.31 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP across eight starts and 39 innings, the weakest line of any starter in this matchup by a distance.

The 9.0 total is fair given Holmes has allowed 18 home runs and Gusto has been hit at a .270 clip. Atlanta's five-game winning streak is the longest active run in the National League, and the Braves face a rotation piece who has yet to record a win in 2026. This is the sort of game a first-place club is expected to take, which is exactly when they tend to be interesting.

Three Starts, 1.04
Regional

Twins at Royals

Tuesday, 7:40 PM ET | Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, MO | MIN -140, total 9.5

Randy Dobnak has a 1.04 ERA. He also has three starts and 26 innings, 14 strikeouts and 10 walks, which is a strikeout rate of 4.85 per nine that no ERA that low has ever survived for long. Kansas City is 46-67, has lost four in a row and is 20-40 on the road against 26-27 at home, which makes Kauffman Stadium the only place the Royals have been competitive at all.

Joe Ryan is the better bet to look like himself. He is 6-7 with a 3.52 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP, with 135 strikeouts against 25 walks in 120.1 innings, a 5.40 strikeout-to-walk ratio that is the second best mark on tonight's board behind Skubal. His weakness is the long ball, with 17 allowed, and Kauffman is a poor place to look for those.

Minnesota is 56-57 and has dropped two straight while going 6-4 across its last ten. The 9.5 total is the second highest on the board behind Coors, which reads as skepticism about Dobnak's ability to keep the act going once a lineup sees him a second time. The Royals have allowed 576 runs, and the bullpen behind their starter is the part of this that the number is really pricing.

The Lowest Total
Regional

Pirates at Brewers

Tuesday, 7:40 PM ET | American Family Field, Milwaukee, WI | MIL -141, total 7

Seven runs. That is the lowest total on the board, and the two starting pitchers explain it without any help. Jared Jones has a 1.02 WHIP and a .198 opponent average across 11 starts and 52 innings, with 58 strikeouts against 15 walks. Logan Henderson has a 0.91 WHIP and a .195 opponent average across nine starts and 44 innings, with 54 strikeouts against nine walks. Neither man has been in the rotation all season and both have been excellent while there.

Milwaukee owns the best record in baseball at 69-43 and is 36-21 at home, and the club has allowed 424 runs, second fewest in the sport. The Brewers have lost two in a row and are 5-5 over their last ten, which is the only crack in an otherwise sealed season.

Pittsburgh is 57-57 with a run differential of plus 31 and has scored 582 runs, the fourth highest total in the National League, which is a genuinely surprising sentence about this franchise. The Pirates split their last ten at 4-6 and won on Sunday. A 7.0 asks both offenses to stay quiet, and both starters have earned the assumption that they will.

Six Straight In Arlington
Regional

Giants at Rangers

Tuesday, 8:05 PM ET | Globe Life Field, Arlington, TX | TEX -187, total 8

Texas has lost six in a row and is 3-7 across its last ten, and the market still made the Rangers a -187 favorite. The reason is on the other side of the ledger. San Francisco is 48-65 and 22-38 on the road, the second worst road record in the National League, and the Giants have scored 475 runs against 524 allowed.

MacKenzie Gore starts for Texas at 6-9 with a 4.77 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP, and the strikeouts remain elite at 136 in 122.2 innings. What has hurt him is 44 walks and 16 home runs, the classic profile of a pitcher whose worst innings are much worse than his average inning suggests.

Blade Tidwell is the mystery. He has thrown 12 innings this season without a single start, carrying a 3.00 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP in that limited relief work. Handing him a rotation turn against a Rangers club desperate to end a six-game slide is a bullpen game dressed as a start, and the 8.0 total assumes San Francisco gets to Texas relievers before Texas gets to whoever follows Tidwell.

.188 And 45 Walks
Sportsnet

Blue Jays at Astros

Tuesday, 8:10 PM ET | Daikin Park, Houston, TX | HOU -123, total 8.5

Trey Yesavage is holding hitters to a .188 average, the second lowest mark of any starter on the board. He has also walked 45 batters in 91.2 innings. Those numbers describe a pitcher nobody can square up and nobody has to, because the free passes arrive on their own. He is 5-5 with a 3.73 ERA across 17 starts.

Houston leads the American League West at 58-56 and is 8-2 over its last ten, an extraordinary run for a team with a negative run differential of 29. The Astros have scored 529 and allowed 558, which is the shape of a club winning close games, and they lost on Sunday to end a streak. Hayden Wesneski has one start and 5.2 innings this season with a 4.76 ERA, so this is effectively a bullpen night in Houston.

The -123 price is the second closest number on the board and reflects real uncertainty about both pitching plans. Toronto is 53-60 and 25-29 on the road, and the Blue Jays have scored only 442 runs, the fewest in the American League. If Yesavage keeps the walks in single figures this becomes a very quiet 8.5.

The 11.0 At Altitude
Regional

Rays at Rockies

Tuesday, 8:40 PM ET | Coors Field, Denver, CO | TB -164, total 11

An 11.0 is four runs higher than the lowest number on this board and two and a half higher than the median. Colorado has allowed 649 runs, the most in baseball, and is 45-68 with an 18-38 road record that becomes a slightly more respectable 27-30 at Coors Field. The altitude giveth and it also flatters.

Gabriel Hughes is the reason this is worth a second look. Four starts, 24.1 innings, a 3.33 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP and, remarkably for a Colorado starter, zero home runs allowed. That will not last forever and it has lasted a month, and he has issued only seven walks in that stretch.

Tampa Bay is 66-46 and the split is the sharpest in the sport: 41-18 at home and 25-28 on the road. The Rays are the best home team in baseball and a barely break-even road club, and they are now at the most punishing road venue that exists. Freddy Peralta starts with a 4.99 ERA, a 1.48 WHIP and 48 walks in 113.2 innings, which is a difficult set of numbers to carry into thin air.

The Closest Price
Regional

Padres at Diamondbacks

Tuesday, 9:40 PM ET | Chase Field, Phoenix, AZ | ARI -112, total 9

Eduardo Rodriguez is 10-3 with a 2.48 ERA across 22 starts and 130.2 innings, and he has done it while striking out only 88 batters, a rate of 6.06 per nine. That is a contact manager having the best season of any starter on this board by earned run average, and the 45 walks say it has not always been comfortable. Arizona is 60-53 and 32-22 at Chase Field.

San Diego arrives 58-55 and 8-2 over its last ten, the hottest stretch of any team playing tonight alongside Houston. The Padres have scored only 473 runs, so that record belongs to a pitching staff that has allowed 489. Randy Vasquez is the exception, sitting at 4.45 with a 1.47 WHIP and a .294 opponent average across 17 starts.

At -112 this is the closest price on the board, and the two clubs are separated by two games in the wild card standings. Arizona won on Sunday, San Diego lost, and both are close enough to the third spot that the next four weeks decide whether either buys or sells. A 9.0 in Phoenix in August is a modest number, and it is built on the assumption that Rodriguez keeps managing contact the way he has all summer.

Melton's 1.75
Regional

Tigers at Mariners

Tuesday, 9:40 PM ET | T-Mobile Park, Seattle, WA | SEA -118, total 7.5

Troy Melton has the best ERA on this board at 1.75, with a 0.93 WHIP and a .174 opponent average across 11 starts and 67 innings. He threw seven shutout innings at Baltimore on July 28, the deepest outing of his young career, and the caveat is 21 walks in those 67 frames, including four-walk starts on July 17 and July 23.

Detroit has outscored its opponents by 63 runs and sits at 54-58, a game behind a Seattle club with a differential of plus three. The Tigers have won three straight and score 4.51 runs per game at home and 4.51 on the road, one of the most genuinely park-neutral offenses in baseball. Kerry Carpenter and Matt Vierling are both on the injured list, leaving Dillon Dingler at .270 with 23 home runs and an .848 OPS as the main source of damage.

Emerson Hancock counters with a 3.26 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP and 27 walks in 110.1 innings, and the venue does the rest. Seattle's staff carries a 3.21 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP at T-Mobile Park against 4.32 and 1.31 on the road, and the Mariners are 32-24 at home against 23-34 away. J.P. Crawford and Luke Raley are out. The full breakdown of this one lives on the featured game page.
