Marlins at Nationals

The Marlins and Nationals open the slate in a near pick-em at minus-110 apiece with the total at 8. Miami sends right-hander Max Meyer, who has been excellent at 5-0 with a 2.97 ERA, against Washington lefty Andrew Alvarez, a 1-0 starter carrying a 4.02 ERA. Meyer's ability to miss bats gives the Marlins the edge on paper in a matchup the market refuses to separate.

This is a get-right spot for whichever lineup connects first, and with the total parked at 8 the books see roughly average run-scoring conditions in D.C. Alvarez has the tougher assignment trying to keep a young Marlins club off the board, and Meyer's strikeout profile means Washington may have to manufacture runs rather than slug its way in.

Tigers at Rays

A genuine pitchers' duel headlines the early window in Tampa. Tigers right-hander Troy Melton has been outstanding in a small sample at 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA, and he draws Rays veteran Nick Martinez, who is rolling at 5-1 with a 1.62 ERA. Tampa Bay is the home favorite at minus-149, with Detroit a live underdog at plus-124 and the total a modest 8.

When two arms this sharp meet, run-scoring tends to come in short bursts, and the price reflects Martinez's track record and home setting. Detroit's value lies in Melton's ceiling; if the rookie matches Martinez frame for frame, the Tigers' plus-money is exactly the kind of number underdog backers chase in low-total games.

White Sox at Twins

CHW +124 / MIN -149

The White Sox visit Minnesota with right-hander Erick Fedde trying to reverse a brutal run at 0-5 with a 5.40 ERA. The Twins counter with Taj Bradley, who has been reliable at 5-1 with a 3.21 ERA, and Minnesota is a solid home favorite at minus-149 with the total up at 9, the highest of the early slate.

Fedde's struggles and the elevated total tell the story: the market expects Chicago's starter to be vulnerable and Minnesota's bats to do damage. The White Sox need length and contact management they have not gotten from Fedde lately, while Bradley's job is simply to keep the Twins in front in a game priced as a comfortable home favorite.

Mets at Mariners

A quality cross-country matchup sends the Mets to Seattle, where right-hander Freddy Peralta (3-4, 3.55 ERA) faces Mariners ace George Kirby (5-4, 3.77 ERA). Seattle is the home favorite at minus-149 with a low total of 7, a number that respects two strike-throwers and the pitcher-friendly conditions at T-Mobile Park.

Both starters live around the zone and rack up strikeouts, which is why the books shaded this to one of the lowest totals on the board. The Mets at plus-123 are banking on Peralta matching Kirby and stealing a road win; the under is the obvious thematic angle given the arms, though Seattle's bullpen depth is part of why they are laid as the favorite.

Padres at Phillies

SD +182 / PHI -224

O/U 7.5
First Pitch
6:40 PM ET

The Phillies are among the heaviest favorites of the night at minus-224, and the reason is on the mound: lefty Cristopher Sanchez has been dominant at 6-2 with a sparkling 1.47 ERA. San Diego counters with Walker Buehler, who has scuffled at 3-3 with a 4.88 ERA, leaving the Padres as plus-182 road dogs and the total at 7.5.

Sanchez's ground-ball heavy, contact-limiting profile is the engine behind that short price, and Philadelphia's lineup gives him margin for error at home. The Padres' path is for Buehler to rediscover his form and for their offense to test a Phillies bullpen; otherwise this projects as a comfortable night for the home side at a price that reflects it.

Orioles at Red Sox

Baltimore visits Fenway with veteran Chris Bassitt (4-3, 5.06 ERA) opposite Red Sox lefty Payton Tolle, who has impressed at 2-2 with a 2.61 ERA. Boston is the home favorite at minus-156 and the total sits high at 9, a nod to Fenway's hitting environment and Bassitt's elevated ERA.

The number screams offense: Bassitt has been hittable and the Green Monster always looms, so Baltimore will need its bats to keep pace if the starter labors. Tolle's strong early form is the difference in the price, but a total of 9 means even the favorite's backers should expect traffic on the bases.

Guardians at Yankees

CLE +135 / NYY -163

One of the night's marquee arms is back: Gerrit Cole takes the Yankee Stadium mound at 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in a very limited early sample, opposite a Guardians team running out Gavin Williams, who has been excellent at 8-3 with a 3.07 ERA. New York is the home favorite at minus-163 with a low total of 7.

Williams has quietly been one of the American League's most productive starters, so Cleveland at plus-135 is no afterthought despite the Cole hype. The low total reflects two power arms and the expectation of a tight, low-scoring game; the swing question is how deep Cole goes and whether the Guardians can solve him before the Yankees' bullpen takes over.

Royals at Reds

KC +134 / CIN -162
Total
O/U 8.5
First Pitch

Cincinnati hands the ball to breakout right-hander Chase Burns, who has been electric at 7-1 with a 1.96 ERA, and the Reds are favored at minus-162 against Kansas City and Stephen Kolek (3-1, 3.48 ERA). The total is a healthy 8.5 in a hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park.

Burns' strikeout stuff is the headline, but the ballpark is why the total stays elevated even with a frontline arm pitching; one mistake can leave the yard in a hurry here. Kansas City at plus-134 leans on Kolek keeping the ball down, and the Royals will try to grind Burns' pitch count and get into the Reds' relief corps.

Blue Jays at Braves

Toronto visits Atlanta with veteran lefty Patrick Corbin (2-1, 3.65 ERA) facing Braves right-hander Grant Holmes (3-2, 3.95 ERA). Atlanta is the home favorite at minus-149 with the total at 8, a pairing of two competent mid-rotation arms in a balanced matchup.

Corbin has steadied himself this season and gives the Blue Jays a chance at plus-123 to steal one on the road. Holmes and the Braves' lineup hold the edge at home, and with both starters prone to the occasional long inning, the total at 8 sits right in the fair range for a game that could tilt on one big frame.

Giants at Brewers

SF +129 / MIL -156

O/U 8
First Pitch

San Francisco ace Logan Webb (2-4, 4.82 ERA) heads to Milwaukee, where the Brewers are the home favorite at minus-156 with their starter still to be confirmed at the time of writing. The total is set at 8, and Webb's elevated ERA this season is part of why the Giants are plus-129 underdogs despite his pedigree.

Webb remains a ground-ball workhorse capable of dominating when his sinker is on, so his real form often outruns the surface ERA. Milwaukee's edge in the price reflects home field and a deep lineup; the Giants need Webb to log length and keep the Brewers in the park to flip this into a winnable road game.

Rangers at Cardinals

TEX -102 / STL -119

The closest line on the board is in St. Louis, where the Rangers (MacKenzie Gore, 4-4, 3.96 ERA) and Cardinals (Andre Pallante, 5-4, 4.19 ERA) are nearly even at minus-102 and minus-119 with the total at 8. Gore's swing-and-miss arsenal is the most dangerous weapon in the matchup.

A true coin-flip price like this usually comes down to bullpens and one timely swing. Pallante's sinker-heavy approach keeps the ball on the ground and plays well at Busch Stadium, while Gore's strikeout upside gives Texas the higher ceiling. Expect a tight, well-pitched game that the relief corps may decide.

Athletics at Cubs

ATH +109 / CHC -131

O/U 8.5
First Pitch
8:05 PM ET

The Athletics visit Wrigley Field with lefty Jeffrey Springs (3-6, 4.07 ERA) opposite Cubs right-hander Colin Rea (5-3, 4.70 ERA). Chicago is a modest home favorite at minus-131 with the total at 8.5, a number that accounts for Wrigley's wind-dependent run environment.

Springs has pitched better than his record suggests and gives the A's a chance at plus-109 to take a competitive road game. Rea has been steady if unspectacular, and with both starters carrying mid-4.00s ERAs, the elevated total makes sense; the wind blowing in or out at Wrigley is the variable that could swing this either way.

Pirates at Astros

PIT -156 / HOU +129

The pitching matchup of the night is in Houston, where Paul Skenes (6-5, 2.89 ERA) leads the Pirates against Astros right-hander Spencer Arrighetti, who has been sensational at 7-1 with a 1.34 ERA. Pittsburgh is the road favorite at minus-156, a rarity that speaks to Skenes' dominance, with the total at a low 7.5.

Skenes has been overpowering, with back-to-back double-digit strikeout outings among his last four starts, and the market makes the Pirates favorites largely on his arm. Arrighetti's microscopic ERA means Houston is fully capable of winning a low-scoring game outright at plus-129; this profiles as a tense, strikeout-heavy duel where the first crooked number may settle it.

Rockies at Angels

9:38 PM ET

COL +130 / LAA -157
Total
O/U 8.5
First Pitch

Colorado sends struggling right-hander Michael Lorenzen (2-7, 7.22 ERA) to Anaheim, where the Angels and Walbert Urena (2-4, 2.44 ERA) are favored at minus-157 with the total at 8.5. The gap in ERA is stark and explains both the price and the elevated number.

Lorenzen's 7.22 ERA is a major red flag, and the Angels' lineup should have chances to do damage if that form continues. Urena has been quietly excellent and gives Los Angeles a real edge on the mound; the Rockies at plus-130 are betting on Lorenzen finding something he has not shown for most of the season.

Dodgers at D-backs

The nightcap is the Dodgers in the desert, and it is appointment viewing: Shohei Ohtani takes the mound at 5-2 with a stunning 0.82 ERA against Arizona's Zac Gallen, who has labored to a 5.16 ERA at 3-4. Los Angeles is a heavy favorite at minus-198 with the total at a robust 9.

Ohtani on the mound and in the lineup is the kind of two-way force that justifies a near minus-200 price, and his sub-1.00 ERA has been the story of the Dodgers' rotation. Gallen's elevated ERA is why the total stays at 9 despite Ohtani's brilliance; if the former Arizona ace settles in, the D-backs at plus-162 have the offense at Chase Field to make it interesting, but the market clearly sides with Los Angeles.
